Ice Climbing

Climbing frozen waterfalls and ice formations is one of Michigan’s most unique winter sports.  With miles of sandstone cliffs, lined with hundreds of frozen waterfalls, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is home to some of the best ice climbing spots in the country – arguably the best ice climbing between New England and the Rocky Mountains. Experience the thrill of ice climbing a frozen waterfall while taking in the scenic landscape that only a Michigan winter provides.

Guiding is provided by Michigan Ice Festival Guides (MIFG). Rock & Ice climbing is a grand adventure, but it isn’t without risk.  We pride ourselves on having the best-trained and most experienced guides in the area with decades of combined guiding and teaching experience. A focus on safety, education, and adventure help make us one of the Midwest’s premier climbing guide services.

You should plan to travel to Munising the day before your trip begins. The first day of each trip begins at 7:30 am at Down Wind Sports, 114 Elm Avenue, Munising, MI to issue rental gear, do required paperwork, and then get quickly out on the ice.

Book early to reserve your spot! We can provide hotel recommendations - which you will also want to book early before they fill up with snowmobilers!
