ICE CLIMBING

Climbing frozen waterfalls and ice formations is one of Michigan’s most unique winter sports. With miles of sandstone cliffs, lined with hundreds of frozen waterfalls, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is home to some of the best ice climbing spots in the country – arguably the best ice climbing between New England and the Rocky Mountains. You should plan to travel to Munising the day before your trip begins. The first day of each trip begins at 7:30 am at Down Wind Sports, 114 Elm Avenue, Munising, MI to issue rental gear, do required paperwork, and then get quickly out on the ice.
